Overview
The College Fair is a Concentrical-owned app created to help students research colleges and careers. Students can research specific colleges and find information on majors, admissions odds, cost of attendance, financial aid trends, average test scores and more.
The app leverages data on nearly 4,000 schools, as well as EMSI’s labor market data to provide students with a hand-held tool for finding the best colleges, majors, and careers for them. The College Fair includes learning modules on key topics and our integrated AI chatbot, KAI, who can respond to student questions and even provide some coaching when students are at a crossroads.
The Challenge
When we created the College Fair we knew that we wanted to design an app that stood alone but was flexible enough to be customized for clients and used for a variety of audiences, including enrolled college students, job-seekers, and employees working on their own professional development.
We needed to create a strong user friendly-framework with the option to tailor content based on different needs.
The Solution
Integrated AI that can be trained with client-specific information
Learning modules tailored users needs and goals
Versatile app design that can incorporate client branding
Flexible Design
We intentionally designed the College Fair to be adaptable enough to tailor to different clients and audiences. We have built customized multiple versions of the app, including the Archways to Career app that we created for a partnership with CAEL/McDonald aimed at helping employees get the most out of their education benefits, college-specific versions that provide scalable support to enrolled students at a variety of colleges and universities, and a version for a student loan company that aims to help students with their plans to pay for college.
Customized Chats
We trained our AI chatbot, KAI, to respond differently in different versions of the app and to draw from client-specific information. For instance, KAI could answer questions for employees about the employment benefits offered to by McDonald, or respond to enrolled students with school-specific information, including important dates, policies, and even scholarships. The content in the learning modules were also tailored based on the interests, goals, and concerns of each audience.
